The Hydrangea Paniculata Grandiflora
My garden is slowly dying, but my Hydrangea, being a late bloomer, is doing very well and is the subject of this latest book painting.
Portrait of the Hydrangea
This species of Hydrangea, the Paniculata Grandiflora, I particular like because of its upside down heart shape - not surprising that it symbolizes love. It’s also the symbol of gratitude making it a thoughtful thank you gift. The Chinese see this plant as the symbol of enlightenment, believing that the observer can easily get lost in its abundant petals propitiating higher thoughts. I don’t know about that, but when I started on the blooms, I got so absorbed that I forgot to take pictures of my progress.
