Fleury, Yorkshire Terrier - Completed

The finishing touches have been applied to Fleury's painting: ribbon, decorative nails, paper backing and hanging hardware, but best of all is the beautiful poem Carol has chosen for Fleury.

An Owner's Plea

Please, God, if You should hear a scratch on Eden's Gate tonight,
A gentle whine, a muffled bark; have Peter take a light
And open up the Pearly Gates and call his Spirit in,
For I think he lived in Heaven once; Please take him back again.

He may have been a mongrel, without a pedigree,
Yet he was noble, kind and good; I think You will agree:
That he'll be very useful where the souls of children play.
He'll romp with them, and see; Dear God; they do not go astray.

Just tell him that we're sorry that we could not pat his head,
And whisper how we loved here 'ere his Spirit fled.
I pray that when death beckons, and my soul surmounts life's fog,
I'll rate a place in Heaven, Dear God, beside our loving dog...

When one experiences the loss of a loved one, it's such an emotional drain that our health is at risk. I was not surprised when Carol told me she had been down with the flu for the last week.

Pet therapy is now a well recognized, accepted and beneficial practice, something animal lovers have known for centuries. Welcoming an animal companion (or more) into our home makes our lives more colourful, textured, amusing and detailed, but unfortunately, their passing brings deep sorrow. It's a price we're willing to pay for these incredible creature comforts. Carol understands that too well.

Hope you enjoyed the making of Fleury's portrait, thank you for following us.
A special thank you to Carol from Happy Tails Rescue for your repeated patronage and encouragement.
