Beatrix Potter- Portrait of an Author/Illustrator, part IV

This portrait of Beatrix Potter is, without a doubt, a miniature. The head is approximately 1 1/2" so I ended up removing hair off of one of my #0 brushes to do her features. A fraction of a millimeter off and it would not look like her. Another challenge is transferring a grainy black and white image of her into a coloured one.

I wanted her portrait to retain a Victorian feel with its colouring as well as with the subject. A soft, muted palette without using water colours, but similar to the colours used in her illustrations. Now, on to her little creatures.
