Astrid's Portrait - Part II

In the springtime of her life.
In her portrait, Astrid is wearing an authentic Japanese child's kimono made of silk. It's a vintage family heirloom. Intended for special occasion, the multi-coloured and multi-patterned vivid print conveys youthfulness, sensitivity, femininity and humour. A quarter of her heritage is Japanese, but I believe that she has more of the Japanese spirit than I do. It's a beautiful, dynamic and complex pattern to do - the type that could produce a seizure - but this painting is all about venturing out of my comfort zone and being challenged.

Across her lap and peaking out from under her arm is Beauty, a fourteen-year-old little poodle cross. One of our three dogs, she was adopted into our home four years ago and has since bonded strongly with Astrid.
