Genetic mutation in budgies can result in wondrous colour effects in their plumage. In the case of Puck, his pastel aqua blue and white plumage looks like he flew in from a mystical dream world, an impression not dissimilar to the discovery of rare cases of albinos in wildlife. Yes, all is explained through science, but the uniqueness of these creatures with unusual appearances trigger our imaginations and bring us back to an ancient world of alchemy, symbolism and etherealness. Thank you Puck and Jan for the magical escape into the imagination. Objects can have the same effect on our psyche, such as this antique Asian vase – together they make a perfect pair.

Puck looks all fluffy and cozy nestled into his duvet, just about to fall asleep.

In ancient cultures the feather symbolized, spirituality, wisdom, truth, voyage, speed, lightness and ascension. In the world of budgie owners, feathers mean moult, vacuum and sweep. A small price to pay for such beautiful creatures in our home.
