Annabelle - Commissioned Dog Portrait

This is the story of Annabelle, a beautiful caramel coloured Dachshund that was found dragging herself by the side of the road. Little is known about her past and how she got to be a paraplegic. She was found and taken in by a good samaritan, but her care was too taxing on a person who had limited funds, time and energy, and who had no experience in taking care of a disabled dog. In August of 2010, she was surrendered to Kimberly Thomas, owner and operator of Kismutt Rescue. Under her care, Annabelle, received the best medical supervision and was given loads of love and attention.

After a thorough assessment by her vet, Annabelle was fitted with a set of wheels, making it possible to get around very easily. She had custom-made "frilly fancy pants" to cover her doggie diapers and she gained a healthy amount of weight. Annabelle's wonderful, sweet disposition melted everyone's hearts. She became Kimberly's constant companion and the perfect mascot for Kismutt Rescue.

Sadly, despite all the excellent care she received, Annabelle's condition started to deteriorate. Internal bleeding and complications was too much for her little body. She passed away on September 7th of this year at 2:30 p.m. In the last year of her life, Annabelle lived a happy dignified dog's life with full mobility, fresh air, healthy food, toys and plenty of friends for play and companionship. Who knows how Annabelle's life started, but we certainly know that it ended the best way possible: in Kimberly's loving family - human, canine and feline.

Annabelle will be greatly missed.
