 A tale of two bridges.

In the mid-1800s, Andrewsville was a slowly growing mill town on the Rideau River. It is now a quiet, scenic hamlet. The swing bridge you see in my painting is part of the Upper Nicholson Lock. It leads to the fixed Andrewsville Bridge which is now in a fragile state in dire need of repair. For safety reasons and to limit further damage, the swing bridge at the lock is closed. For now, the two bridges do not bridge, though pedestrians do have access to the Andrewsville Bridge, which really is a charming old iron structure.

To me, bridges are symbolic of unity, connection, transition, 

and the ability to overcome barriers and obstacles.
