Commissioned Portrait - Grandfather and His Cat, Part XI
The most important subject of the painting is my client's Papa, her grandfather. I'm using this photograph of him. He's relaxed, his expression is natural, the lighting comes from the left which is ideal for the portrait. It was taken outdoors so he's squinting a little, but I can open up his eyes and adjust the skin tone for indoors.
The photograph I'm working with gets blurry when enlarged, but that's okay, I can still see the important shapes and shadows. Besides, as mentioned when doing the plaid fabric, I'm not into hyperrealism, I won't do every single line, bump and wrinkle.
The other eye was not advanced enough to show the entire face.
Still a lot more work to do, but it's progressing well.
