Samantha and the Sparkly Slipper

Samantha was one of the numerous dogs I photographed for my local dog shelter, Kismutt Small Dog Rescue. The pictures are used to advertise a dog ready for adoption on the Petfinder site. Samantha had been born in a puppy mill with a "cherry eye", a non threatening condition that requires a simple corrective surgery on the inner bottom eyelid. She was destined to be killed by the mill owner because of this condition. Kismutt took her in, payed for her surgery and was soon adopted by a lovely couple. Samantha was one of the prettiest dogs I had seen, she was also very lively. The orange wall, the dynamic print on the chair, the contrasting colours and the sparkles on the slipper were all in keeping with Samantha's fantastic personality.

  1. She is beautiful in that setting. Love the colors! I would think a dog would find a family easily if the family could see their future pet pampered and in a painting. You know...give them a visual!
Hopefully, the puppy finds a forever family before the painting is ever done! Great ideas, beautiful work!

  2. Thank you Machelle. Yes, visuals make things so much easier. We noticed it with the pictures going on Petfinder. A good close up picture showing the dog in a house seems to get more response than when taken outside at the shelter. But they do get adopted quickly either way.
I want people to know that they can get a wonderful dog through a rescue organization, instead of going to the pet shop or a breeder, just like you did with Baby-good job!
