Jewelled Damselfly & Water Hyacinth

Painting of a jewelled damselfly, incrusted with amethyst, ruby eyes, diamonds, yellow and orange citrines, rest on a water hyacinth. My pond attracts so many different creatures throughout the warm season.

This mini painting measures 4" x 4" x 1" (10cm x 10 cm x 2.5 cm) and is painted on wood, using artist grade acrylics. Two coats of varnish protects the face and the four sides.

Every winter, I retreat into my studio to escape the cold reality, into a world where the weather is always perfect, the flowers are always in bloom and there are priceless sparkly jewellery all over the garden. For a while I forget about the dreadful weather. I take great pleasure researching antique brooches and/or designing new pieces for this purpose. These pieces might be small, but they are very labour intensive.

These little paintings are jewellery for the home and like insects, they can multiply fast. These miniatures look best in a group so start collecting them or request a custom piece.
