I had a late start to Sally's portrait today - back to school obligations. But I did manage to get a good portion of the background done. I started from the back and top of the canvas and worked my way downwards. The grass has many shades of green and has to be completely done before all the other elements can be added. At this point, the painting is always flat. I feel awkward showing this stage, but things will gradually come together. I only like to work with natural light, so I have to stop at this late time, clean up my brushes and say goodnight to Sally.
