Resuming Portrait of a Lady - Part VIII
In April of last year, I had to step back from this painting as I had reached an impasse. You can read about it here, as well as see the beginning stages up to that point. I realized that my subject was simply too small for me to be able to achieve a good resemblance. I have since acquired real respect for miniature portrait painters and I've learned more about myself as an artist.
"If it doesn't feel right and it's not working out, it's because it's not the right thing to do".
and
"If there are too many distractions while I'm painting, stop painting until daily demands quiet down".
This being said, nine months later, I took a new direction for this painting and it feels great.
Many layers to come but it's going very well.
