RIDEAU CANAL, Kilmarnock

RIDEAU CANAL, Kilmarnock
24"x36" Acrylic on stretched canvas

The second in a series depicting the Rideau Canal locks. Illustration-style painting inspired by vintage travel posters. I got the idea when my daughter visited from Montreal while showing her the sites and taking pictures, just like tourists.
The Kilmarnock lockstation has one lock (24), but it’s very charming with its original lock master stone house up on the hill. A lovely, breezy site to enjoy pic-nics and equally nice to set up a tent. A low trafic area, it’s ideal for bike riding on winding roads flanked by
apple orchards.

I don’t know if it’s too ambitious, but I intend to visit all the locks, from Ottawa to Kingston and paint the ones that speak to me. A UNESCO heritage site, I find it impressive that such an old structure (1832) is still operational and relevant today. Follow along and see how the next lock turns out.
