I take great pleasure researching antique brooches to reproduce or to design new pieces inspired by actual insects. For this piece, a hornet was the inspiration. The majority of the blooms used in these little paintings are from my garden. In this case this actaea came from my mother’s garden and adapted very well to my shaded woodland garden. These are late bloomers and provide loads of pollen when the supply is generally low. This hornet would look happy with the big spider below.
