Purple Crocuses in Vintage Porcelain Dish with Garden Snails - St Marys Museum Artefact

Purple Crocuses in Vintage Dish with Garden Snails
(9" x 12" x 3/4" acrylic on canvas)
This painting features another St Marys Museum artifact, a delicate vintage porcelain vessel with gold handles and rim. I imagined that in its past, it might have been used at dinnertime to contain a side dish of some sort. In my painting, it contains the museum’s purple crocuses seen in abundance on its grounds during springtime. If you are familiar with my work, you know I like to incorporate little creatures in my composition. For this piece, a pair of snails feel right at home in this
fresh and moist environment.

South side of the St Marys Museum
Overlooking the town of St Marys, the main museum building is a large 1850s home built from locally quarried limestone. The museum offers changing and permanent exhibits relating to the history of the area. Two outbuildings contain a woodworking shop, and displays of farm implements and early methods of transportation. There is also a children’s discovery area and resources for research into local history.

The very knowledgeable, kind, courteous and helpful staff is a pleasure to deal with.
Thank you to Ms Amy Cubberley, St Marys Museum curator and archivist.

Why not bring out old family heirlooms from the back of the china cabinet and use them as planting containers or flower arrangements?
They are much prettier than the cheap glass or plastic containers the florists use.

As a small token of my appreciation and to help support my local museum, I had
my paintings of the artefacts printed into notecards, to be sold in the museum's gift shop.
100% of the proceeds of the sales of these cards go to the museum.

You might remember Jean's Snowdrops from spring 2015. And now the purple crocuses will soon be printed into a notecard.
