Squeek - Commissioned Portrait
This painting will portray Squeek, a beautiful black and white female cat owned by Deb, her human mom.
Squeek was a cat that someone had dropped off in the country. She was found severely underweight, dehydrated and stressed... probably a house cat that had never developed her hunting skills. Deb adopted her and Squeek became the best cat ever. I often hear that animals that have known hardship and abuse in their past make exceptionally sweet and loyal pets when given a second chance. Squeek is another example. Here are Deb's words to describe her beloved cat:
At times, she could be a silly cat. When she thought you weren't looking, she would dip her paw into your glass if there was something in there that she liked. She liked to go upstairs and pull things downstairs, so it was not unusual to come downstairs in the morning to be greeted by a room full of slippers, socks, papers, etc. Squeek was very affectionate and having her head rubbed was her favorite thing. Despite all the expensive toys I bought for her, her favourite toys were a small crumpled up piece of paper or an elastic. Her favorite pastime was to lie in the window and soak up the sun.
Unfortunately, Squeek past away on October 6th, 2010, after a short bout with cancer. Her kind and gentle spirit will be missed by all who were fortunate to know her. I feel very privilege to have owned her.
Our beloved pets leave such a huge gap in our lives and in our hearts when they pass away. I hope that this portrait will bring Deb some comfort and help fill a little of that gap.
